The gorge features magnificent landscapes, griffon vultures in flight, and spectacular geology. It is a declared Nature Reserve and part of the Natura 2000 Network.

This circular route runs along the foothills of the Sierra de Leyre and through the Foz de Lumbier gorge. It traverses magnificent landscapes where griffon vultures soar above the cliffs. The Foz de Lumbier gorge cuts through the western end of the Sierra de Leyre, where the Irati River flows between towering limestone walls. The river enters and exits the gorge through narrow canyons only a few meters wide. Spectacular geology and centuries of isolation in these inaccessible corners preserve exceptional natural values. The area became a Nature Reserve (40 ha) in 1987 and stands as one of the 42 SCI sites in Navarre within the Natura 2000 network.
